A LEADING German life sciences company has revealed plans to create a centre of excellence in Scotland after taking space at Maxim Park.

Sartorius, which is headquartered in Gottingen, has signed a 15-year lease on more than 8,000 square feet at the site, part of the sprawling Eurocentral business park in Lanarkshire. The historic company, which can trace its roots back to 1870, is the latest in a series of life sciences companies to commit to Maxim. Other tenants include TC Biopharm, LumiraDX and Altair Medical.

Sartorius supports scientists and engineers around the world in the development and manufacture of drugs to treat diseases such as cancer and dementia, s well as vaccines for coronavirus. It will carry out research at Maxim, where it has taken two suites comprising laboratory space and open offices with meeting rooms and breakout areas.

The company, which employs more than 12,000 people across 60 manufacturing and sales sites, is currently recruiting for additional staff to be based at its new Scottish site.

Lorna Littlejohn of Sartorius, said the site will become a “centre of excellence for the global confidence virus clearance services team and as such, our colleagues from across the world will come and work with us here at Maxim Park to learn the techniques we’ve developed. Our customers will also come to the site to collaborate on studies that will be used to support their submissions to regulatory bodies such as the MHRA for new drug substances, so we looked for a location that was modern, attractive, and will create a good impression with colleagues and customers. We look forward to growing our business from the park.”

Hannah Lowe of CBRE, joint letting agent for Maxim Park with Knight Frank, said: “Maxim Park has been designed to provide the flexible building layouts and customisable floor plates required for organisations of all kinds, not least life sciences firms like Sartorius that have a specific need for robust and rigorous laboratory conditions.”
