The annual TEDx conference is set to return to Glasgow next month and they are encouraging the acceleration of climate action amongst the companies involved.

TEDxGlasgow - an annual event where live TED-like talks and performances are shared within the business community - will be hosted in Glasgow on October 7 at The Engine Works and brings with it a theme of ‘Make or Break’.

Gurjit Singh Lalli, Curator & Founder of TEDxGlasgow, said they want to "create a legacy beyond COP26" at this years' event.

She said: "This year’s theme, Make or Break, recognises United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres statement that 2021 is a ‘make or break’ year to confront the global climate emergency."

The annual conference this year will host a wealth of speakers giving personalised TEDx talks on the solutions that can help save the planet.

The Scottish Government and Glasgow City Council are official partners of TEDxGlasgow, with other companies including BMW Group, Event Scotland, Nestle, Innovate UK and Xodus.

TEDxGlasgow said that they are attempting to encourage these companies to ‘collaborate and accelerate’ their plans on tackling climate change and they will help by putting on a series of monthly meetups and workshops for them.

Gurjit Singh Lalli added: “We want to encourage our partner organisations and supporters of the city’s TEDx to reduce their carbon-intensive practices and trigger individual actions that work towards a climate solution.”

“The audience will hear from John Elkington - described as the ‘true green business guru’ - as he talks about how the power of the boards can influence change.

“Other speakers will include Greg Jackson whose talk will tackle the need for a just transition within the energy sector. While Fiona Morgan will entertain the audience with her talk on sports and how fans can support its sustainable future.”

The annual event comes only one month before the COP26 summit taking place in Glasgow, and as climate discussion in the country ramps up through the next few weeks, organisers of TEDxGlasgow are hoping that the conference can help in creating positive changes.
