In an effort to save 2.7 tonnes of CO2 emissions, hundreds of COP26 hand sanitiser units – provided by Dettol Pro Solutions – will soon be given away to a number of Scottish firms and organisations
HUNDREDS of firms and groups across Glasgow are set to benefit from Dettol’s status as COP26's official hygiene partner – with all the event’s hand sanitiser dispensers soon to be re-distributed for free by parent firm Reckitt.
This week, Dettol Pro Solutions – the global brand name’s business-to-business offering – announced a new partnership with Bunzl Cleaning & Hygiene Supplies to deliver 600 hand sanitisers to businesses in Glasgow and the surrounding area post-COP26.
The firm also committed to rehoming all its hygiene products from the event as a means to give back to the city, with the partnership helping provide residents and tourists within Glasgow easy access to sanitisation during the pandemic.
In addition, any excess stock will be offered to local government offices, universities, the Hygiene Bank – which works to reduce hygiene poverty – and to Emmaus, a homeless charity supported by Bunzl.
As the hygiene partner of COP26, Dettol Pro Solutions helped to enhance hygienic measures reducing the spread of bacteria and viruses.
The conference space spanned more than 30 football pitches and the protocol developed by Reckitt’s team of hygiene experts cleaned 50,000 hygiene ‘hotspots’ – including 123 office spaces, 99 large meeting rooms and 745 toilets – with Dettol products.
Using signage and other communications about the science-based protocols in place, Dettol Pro Solutions helped address attendees’ concerns around hygiene, as well as educate on hygiene best practice, throughout the duration of the event.
Following COP26, distributor Bunzl will collect and distribute the dispensers and stock to Glasgow City Council and local businesses in Glasgow and the wider region.
The initiative is expected to help save six tonnes of waste and 2.7 tonnes of carbon dioxide by keeping the dispensers in use.
Jonathan Weiss, commercial director at Reckitt Global Business Solutions, commented:
“Our commitment to the city of Glasgow and sustainability goes far beyond one event. After having helped with hygienic measures more than 25,000 world leaders and climate change representatives, we are delighted to now be able to leave a legacy of hygiene and cleaning protocols for residents, visitors, local charities and local businesses through our donation of these products.
“Dettol is a trusted brand that develops science-led, efficacious hygiene products, and so we hope this initiative will help restore confidence for consumers as they begin to fully re-engage with physical spaces in Glasgow and the surrounding areas.
“We felt a shared sense of purpose with the team at Bunzl Cleaning & Hygiene Supplies and are pleased to be partnering with them on this important initiative. We hope this project will help Glasgow continue in its mission to rejuvenate its economy whilst helping with high standards of hygiene.”
David Cousins, Managing Director from Bunzl Cleaning and Hygiene Supplies, added: “It’s been a privilege to collaborate with a globally recognised brand on this project, which felt like a natural partnership for both parties. Responding to the climate crisis is a collective responsibility, and we’re proud to play a part in helping create and protect a circular economy for Glasgow and its surrounding areas.”
Dettol Pro Solutions has launched in the UK implementing its expertise across four key areas: tailored training and protocols for businesses; creating effective products that help to kill bacteria and viruses; innovative global logistics and servicing; and leveraging its brand power to help businesses clearly communicate the steps they’re taking to help make their spaces cleaner.
Early indications suggest that Dettol Pro Solutions’ offering across the four areas is proving successful with businesses and consumers alike, as 72% reported that they felt more confident to engage with a brand if they were partnered with Dettol.
Bunzl Cleaning & Hygiene Supplies forms part of Bunzl plc, a British-owned multinational distribution and outsourcing company that provides businesses with supplies of catering equipment, cleaning products, disposable hygiene products and more.
