A COUNTRY estate on the banks of Loch Lomond which includes its own 16th century castle has been placed on the market.

Bannachra Estate, set on 94.7 acres near Arden on the southern extremity of the loch, has been put up for sale in a move likely to spark interest from UK-based and international buyers.

The property, which was built in the Arts and Crafts style, spans 5,669 square feet over two floors. Guest are welcomed at what is described as a stately covered entrance, leading to a grand entrance hall and pitch pint staircase. It has eight bedrooms in total and features a new morning room, built using oak from the estate’s own woodlands.

The property includes is a two-bedroom cottage with two conservatories overlooking the lochan.

The ruined castle, classified as a medieval tower house by Historic Environment Scotland, was three storeys high in its hey-day in the 16th century, when it had a commanding position looking over the loch. There are outbuildings in varying states of repair.

The estate is based in the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs national park.

It is being marketed by Baird Lumsden, the specialist rural property arm of DM Hall Chartered Surveyors.
