Scotland's Vikki Laing failed by one shot to earn a place in the final LPGA Qualifying School in Florida in December, writes Elspeth Burnside.

Tied for 17th going into the final round of the first of the pre-qualifying events at Mission Hills in California, the Musselburgh golfer stumbled to the six-over-par round of 78 and finished in a tie for 33rd place.

The top 32 players on five over and better remain on course to win a card for the 2009 LPGA Tour. South Korean Sun-Ju Ahn led the list on 16 under par after a closing 68. Michelle Wie finished fourth after a last round 71.

Derbyshire's Melissa Reid was the only Brit to make the grade. She finished tied for tenth on two under after a 71.
