This reactionary nonsense plays like it was dreamed up during an editorial meeting at a tabloid newspaper. A middle-class couple go on a camping trip only to have their car nicked by a gang of gobby yoofs. When indignant Steve catches up with the kids and confronts them they torture him half to death and then go after his girlfriend. It's sensationalist rubbish that cashes in on newspaper headlines and contributes to the ostracising of Britain's teenagers. Shameful subtext aside, Eden Lake doesn't even work as a film in its own right. Although it rips off recent French "ordeal horror", the suspense is lame and the bloodletting tame.
