MORE than a dozen jobs have been saved at a mineral water company that was facing closure.

Moray-based Speyside Glenlivet was bought over by Perthshire-based rival Highland Spring for an undisclosed sum yesterday, saving 13 jobs.

Speyside Glenlivet, which supplies water to fine dining restaurants and luxury hotels worldwide, went into administration earlier this month, but has now sealed a deal to secure its future with Highland Spring, the UK's leading producer of branded bottled water.

The bottling company will remain in its current location near Ballindalloch in Moray, as Speyside Glenlivet can only be bottled at source in the Crown Estate of Glenlivet.

Les Montgomery, chief executive of Highland Spring Ltd, said: "We're delighted that we've been able to complete this acquisition. It's been a very quick process and now we're looking forward to getting on with taking the brand onwards and upwards.

"Glenlivet was a small company, with a simple, nice- looking range, but with Highland Spring being a bigger company with more of a marketing resource, we will be able to put our sales and marketing expertise into expanding the future of the brand."

Moray MSP Richard Lochhead said: "I am absolutely delighted for the staff and local community that the business is now set for a new lease of life after being saved.

"The saving of 13 jobs in Glenlivet is like saving scores of jobs in a bigger community. In a climate where every job counts, this must not be underestimated."
