Star rating: ** Dir: Jody Hill With: Seth Rogen, Ray Liotta A mall cop with delusions of power , in love with the girl of his dreams. Hang on, didn't we sit through this movie a few weeks ago, only then it was titled Mall Cop? Jody Hill's picture is a different kettle of cod from Paul Blart's daft but likeable caper. This comedy divides its time between being baffling and outright disturbing. Equally unnerving is the appearance of Ray "Goodfellas" Liotta as a swaggering detective, come to teach the pretend cop (Seth Rogen) how it's done. There are some inspired moments, but Observe and Report breaks a fundamental rule of sweet-and-sour comedy in leaving it far too late to endear itself to the audience. A brave experiment gone wrong.
