SCOTSPORT presenter Jim Delahunt is leaving the football show for rival broadcaster Setanta.

Delahunt, 44, has fronted Scotsport for eight years and took over presenting from Jim Whyte, who is now at Sky. It leaves Scotsport, the world's longest-running sports show, searching for a new presenter.

Delahunt's fellow presenters, Julyan Sinclair and Sarah O'Flaherty, were dropped last month after more than 7000 football fans signed an online petition criticising their presenting style and dearth of football knowledge.

It is believed Delahunt decided to quit after being head-hunted by Setanta, which holds the rights to live SPL games.

Delahunt, a former jockey, said: "I've been at STV for 16 years now and feel that it's the right time to move on."

Henry Eagles, head of sport at STV, said: "We are obviously sad to see Jim go."

Scotsport holds the Guinness World Record for the longest-running sports TV programme.

In May, Setanta bought the rights to 46 English Premiership games a year for three seasons for GBP392m. The channel also paid GBP54.5m to show 60 live SPL games a season for the next four years.
