Matt Machan, pictured, looks certain to miss the remainder of the Saltires' YB40 campaign after being called up by Sussex, writes William Dick.

Machan, who recently qualified for the Scots through the International Cricket Council's parentage rule, featured in the opening game against Hampshire and was also in the side for last week's one-day international against Pakistan. The 22 year-old is currently playing in Sussex's championship game with Somerset, though, and is in the county's squad rather than the Saltires' for this weekend's YB40 action.

Should he take the field for Sussex against Kent on Sunday, he will automatically become cup-tied under competition rules.

Machan's absence means the Saltires will again go with a home-grown team in their Bank Holiday double-header against Derbyshire and Surrey at The Grange.

Calum MacLeod, dropped for the Pakistan games, makes an immediate return after his man-of-the-match display for the Reivers in their LiveSport.co.uk Pro Series win over the Highlanders on Wednesday.

Gordon Goudie has shaken off  injury and will spearhead the bowling attack while youngsters Matty Cross, Freddie Coleman and Michael Leask will again feature. Paddy Sadler drops out of the squad and must wait for his Saltires debut.

Coach Pete Steindl said: "We understand that counties have first call on their players for these fixtures and it's great that Matt is involved with Sussex. It gives some of our less experienced guys a great chance to sample a high standard of competition. Having Gordon [Goudie] back is a big boost; he is one of our key players."
