Part of the company's commitment to constructing a future and improving the future prospects of young people is shown in a programme of employment skills plans which supports community benefit objectives across local projects.

These plans provide recruitment, training and educational opportunities which will help communities to thrive over the long term and to grow a skilled workforce, supporting future development within the industry. Bridging the gap between education and employment is a crucial factor to aid sustainable economic recovery. Part of what Morrison Construction offer is The Employability and Construction programme, which supports the Curriculum for Excellence, touching on employability, personal and social development, communication, problem solving, using initiative, English, numeracy, presentation and team work.

The programme is now mapped to the SQA Employability SCQF Level 4 award and young people completing the programme now earn this accredited qualification. 

Recently Morrison Construction has been working in partnership with four secondary schools in Central Scotland and has given 130 pupils overall the opportunity to gain valuable vocational experience and an insight into the industry.  Details of one of these programmes, run at James Gillespie's High School with 97 pupils, can be accessed here.

Recruitment - we work with our supply chain to identify a range of employment opportunities, including professional, trainee, apprenticeships and direct labour opportunities.

Training - a highly skilled workforce is crucial to the success of our projects.  We work closely with our supply chain to ensure existing skills and qualifications are tracked against our commitment to raising standards across the industry.

Education - Working with students over the longer term develops links between education and industry.  Early exposure to the industry is vital to the construction sector.  We provide a range of work placement opportunities to school, college and university students, unemployed people and for individuals participating on pre-employment training courses. 

We deliver a range of curriculum supported activity in schools and colleges across the territory including; project specific presentations, visits to our construction sites, health and safety talks, input into a variety of STEM activities and delivery of the SQA verified Morrison Construction Employability & Construction programme.
