Famous faces dress up for London 2012 - in outfits by Scotland's star designers.

The start of London 2012 showcased the work of two of Scotland’s most talented designers, with Emeli Sandéappearing in the opening ceremony wearing Jonathan Saunders, and the Duchess of Cambridge wearing Christopher Kane to watch the event.

Sandé, who gave a moving performance of the hymn Abide with Me, wore a floor length green dress that was at once modest and striking.

“It was a real pleasure to work with Emeli Sande,” said Saunders, who is a Glasgow School of Art graduate. “I am excited to be a part of the opening ceremony, and also to be working with somebody who is very sure about what she wants - which is not heavily embellished or girlie, and we ended up with something appropriate and cool.”

The Duchess of Cambridge, who helped to host a reception for visiting heads of state before the ceremony, wore an ice-blue coat dress by Christopher Kane, whose career has progressed apace since he won Young Designer of the Year at the Scottish Fashion Awards in 2006. His outfits have recently been seen being worn by celebrities including Emma Watson and Alexa Chung.

The Duchess often wears outfits by British designers, and this is the first time she is known to have appeared in public wearing one of Kane’s creations.
