STYLE AND SUBSTANCE

Smart automatic gates signal you've arrived at Silverwood Lodges Resort in the Carse of Gowrie in the quiet clachan of Inchcoonans. With the aim of providing high quality luxury self catering accommodation some of the lodges on the twenty acre site also have spa baths. Owners Rod and Adelle Sim were inspired by the dearth of nearby accommodation for guests after their own wedding nearby, and with three highly popular wedding venues in the vicinity they've perhaps spotted a gap in the market. A real labour of love the interiors are beautifully furnished and spotlessly clean.

SLEEPING MATTERS

With a calming silver, grey and white colour palette and high thread count bedding the clapperboard effect bedrooms have a New England aesthetic which coupled to the quiet rural location ensures a great nights sleep after a day exploring. For lodges the bathrooms aren't too shabby either with double walk in showers and ensuites.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Silverwood Lodges are to be joined in the spring by an onsite bistro with views onto a wildlife pond stocked with trout with plans to serve foods with a locally sourced focus. In the interim the well stocked kitchen invites you to get creative with produce from the many surrounding farms. Highlights nearby to explore are Arbuckle's Farm Shop at Star Inn Farm, Invergowrie (www.arbuckles.co.uk) or Grewars Farm Shop (www.grewarsfarmshop.co.uk). Pick up a fantastic cheeseboard at The Cheesery (www.thecheesery.co.uk) with award winning wine from the local winery in Errol, Cairn O'Mohr (www.cairnomohr.com) where wine and cider are made from local flowers, fruits and leaves. If all that dotting about seems too much like trouble instead head to the lovely cafe and farmshop at Glendoick Garden Centre (www.glendoick.com) for hearty breakfasts and lunches not to mention fantastic home baking. The lodges are a short walk away from the Mackie's of Scotland crisp factory (www.mackiescrisps.co.uk) where you can try all their varieties of crisps and popcorn in their factory shop.

DRINK IN THE SIGHTS

A woodland stroll on the Tay Estuary at Errol reminds you that the settlement was known for it's reeds which were famously collected to make thatched roofs until only a few years ago. The reeds provide important breeding grounds for an array of birds and wildlife. If you like a bit of plunder then Errol's car boot sale every Saturday and Sunday on the old RAF airfield attracts visitors from far and wide.

SILVERWOOD BEST FOR …

A home from home to explore Perthshire and Tayside.

NICE TOUCH

Watching the trout leap and waking up to deer grazing outside your window in the morning.

ABOUT THE AREA

Ideally located between Perth and Dundee it makes a tranquil base for exploring the local area including the V&A and the RRS Discovery. Don't forget to stop by at The Horn Milk Bar just off the A90 on route to Dundee. With a cow on the roof, stacked bacon butties and an unchanged retro interior from the 1960's it's a kitsch delight not to be missed.

Starting prices at Silverwood until end of Feb 2019 are from £179 for 2 nights midweek in the Hideaway Lodge sleeping four, to £399 for 3 nights over a weekend in the Family Lodge sleeping six. Many prices have been reduced – please contact the resort for further details.
