Silver Linings Playbook (15)

David O Russell's acclaimed comedy-drama stars Bradley Cooper as a man with bipolar disorder trying to get his life together after coming out of hospital. It was nominated for eight Academy Awards earlier this year – co-star Jennifer Lawrence picked up the Best Actress Oscar – and features Robert De Niro, Jacki Weaver and Chris Tucker. Based on Matthew Quick's novel of the same name, Russell has a personal connection as his son is bipolar. Out tomorrow.

Turn Me On, Goddamit (15)

Quirky Norwegian coming-of-age drama about two sex-obsessed 15-year-olds living a dreary existence in a small town. Director Jannicke Systad Jacobsen turns the usual format on its head by making these teens female. Shades of Lukas Moodysson's 1997 flick Show Me Love, perhaps, but that's no bad thing. Out now.

House Of Cards (15)

A timely re-release for this classic 1990 political drama given the recent US remake. Here Ian Richardson takes the lead, playing machievellian Chief Whip Francis Urquhart as a Richard III figure intent on taking the top job after the resignation of the Prime Minister. Based on a novel by MP Michael Dobbs, the screenplay was by Andrew Davies and, though it runs to a mere four episodes, it was a landmark of early 1990s TV. Like Borgen today, it was compulsory viewing for politicians. Out tomorrow.

Army Of Shadows (12)

Best known for his stylish film noir dramas set in the Parisian underworld, French director Jean-Pierre Melville returned to his war experiences for this gripping 1969 film. Melville, Jewish and a self-proclaimed "right-wing anarchist", fought with the French resistance and it's their struggle which make up the meat of the story. It's based on a book by French journalist Joseph Kessel, but it remains Melville's most personal and controversial film. Lino Ventura, Paul Meurisse and the great Simone Signoret star. Out April 8.
