Dance school celebrates 30th anniversary

The Dance School of Scotland, based at Knightswood Secondary in Glasgow, celebrates its 30th anniversary at Glasgow Royal Concert Hall this weekend, when current students will welcome back alumni to share the stage, including Kara McLaughlin and Daniel Davidson of Scottish Ballet and Greig Matthews from Vienna State Ballet. Tickets are still available for the shows on Saturday and Sunday at 7.30pm, which include four choreographers' contrasting interpretations of Vivaldi's Four Seasons.

Falkirk dancers bid for Proms

Young dancers from Falkirk are in the running to perform at the Royal Albert Hall in Dance Proms 2014 in November. Tartantastic, from Stenhouse School of Dance, are aged nine to 14 and the youngest of three groups in the running to be selected by an online public vote. The Dance Proms, whose patron is Darcey Bussell, showcase dance in all its forms and will include young dancers from around the world as well as the UK. Video of all three contenders for this last place on the bill can be viewed on the event website, and voting is open until Sunday.

Disco sound for Games shows

Glasgow jazz funk band Federation of the Disco Pimp has been named as the house band for BBC1's nightly broadcast from the Commonwealth Games 2014, Tonight at the Games. The theme music for the show, which will be presented by Clare Balding and Match of the Day's Mark Chapman, will be the group's tune Pound for Pound and the musicians will be in the studio for the run of the show from July 24 to August 2 to provide incidental music. The full FotDP experience can be had when play their own gig at Glasgow Jazz Festival's new pop-up venue in Candleriggs, the Rio Club, on Friday June 27 from 9.30pm.
