Michelle Wolf talks about her debut stand up show, So Brave.

Tell us about your Fringe show

It's called So Brave and it's essentially my take on big issues from politics, to sports, to feminism, to dating. And how I navigate through these things and in life. By the end of the show, you should be like "oh I get her. She's crazy but I get her."

How does it feel to be playing the Fringe for the first time?

I'm excited! I think my red hair and freckles will fit in nicely in Scotland. I'll also admit that I am a little nervous. I've heard it's tough to do this many shows in a road. And I've only ever performed in europe once. So it'll be interesting. Hopefully I have a good time. Hopefully people come to the shows! I'm sure I'll drink a lot.

If you were not a performer/comedian what would you be doing?

I'd probably be exercise physiologist. I studied Kinesiology in college. That's the study of how the body moves. It was a cool major. I got to dissect a human. I really love working out. I ran track in college. It used to be my favorite thing to do. Until comedy...

How do you combat pre-gig nerves?

I pretend that I'm not nervous. I trick myself into thinking it's nothing. I'm never more nervous, no matter the size of the room when a comic I respect is watching me. I get that people have their own tastes and that not everyone will like me. But you always want comics you like to like you. That's when I'm most nervous.

Worst on stage experience?

One time I bombed for 45 minutes in front of 12 angry people who I don't think spoke english. It was at a theater in New York. And I was doing sketch so I couldn't change to crowd work. I had to just keep doing the sketch. So I was essentially trapped and just tried to get through it.

How do you recover from a hefty heckle?

I try to shut the person down as quickly as possible. But I don't have a stock set of replies. Each heckler is unique and terrible, so I try to return the favour.
