AEBERLI — GRETEL. Peacefully, at her home in Toronto, Canada, on Wednesday, 21st January, 2015, in her 104th year, Mrs Gretel Aeberli (née Haeberlin), wife of Ernst Aeberli for 60 years until his death in 2008. Gretel’s parents, Walter and Marie Haeberlin, emigrated from Switzerland to Glasgow in the late 1890s where, based in the West End, they were in business as Continental Bakers and Confectioners until they moved to Canada in 1909. In the late 1940s, after University and teaching at St Mildred’s and later Havergal College, Toronto, Gretel travelled to Austria to assist in displaced persons camps. She was married in London, England, and during the 1960s lived with her husband and family at Tamarac, Moor Lane, Strathblane. Mother of Karl and Peter, she will also be remembered by her four grandchildren Kai, Tim, Helena and Alice.
