MAHER - Gerry At Edinburgh on 28th January 2023, Professor Gerry Maher KC, Professor of Criminal Law at Edinburgh University and former Scottish Law Commissioner. Wonderful husband for 36 years of Joan Cunningham. Beloved and proud father of Robyn and great friend to Robyn's partner Jack. Greatly loved by his brothers Michael and Jim and by his sister Eileen and his nephews and nieces. Amiable brother-in-law to Stewart, Christine and Trevor. Close and special friend to many, and in particular, Chris Kerr, and Robin and Noor in Amsterdam. Dedicated academic, avid reader of literature, Joycean scholar, Sudoku addict and Celtic F.C. fanatic. A gentle, kind, witty man with enduring sense of humour. Will be remembered forever by those who loved him. Funeral private but a service to commemorate his life will be held at Palmerston Place Church, 10 Palmerston Place, Edinburgh at 12.15pm on 20th February 2023. Reception thereafter at Old College, Edinburgh University. All friends, colleagues and students of Gerry over the years warmly invited.
