Kilmarnock took the first step to retaining the treble when they lifted the Scottish Women's Premier League cup yesterday in a hard-fought game against Glasgow City.

Killie eventually ran out 2-0 winners thanks to a first-half goal from Joanne Love and second-half strike from Linda Brown. Coach Jim Chapman admitted afterwards that it had been a tough game for his side in difficult conditions.

''It was a very difficult game against a good side,'' he said. ''But my team worked extremely hard and they got their just deserts.''

Kilmarnock still have to the seal the SWPL title and have a Scottish Cup Final against Hibernian ahead this season.

Hibs took the opportunity to make up ground on Killie in the league with a 6-2 win over local rivals Giulianos.

Kirsty McBride and Suzanne Maloney both scored doubles for Hibs with Jane Doig and Sophie Hearn adding the remaining two.

At the bottom of the table there were wins for Shettleston and Lossiemouth. Bottom side Shettleston upset high-flying Cove Rangers with a 4-2 victory while Lossiemouth recorded an identical scoreline against Dundee FC Ladies. Hamilton beat Ayr Utd 3-2 while Raith Rovers scraped past Inver-Ross 2-1.

Meanwhile, in the Centenary Challenge match at New Bayview East Fife lost 7-0 to a full strength Manchester United Ladies side.
