THE DM Hall Western Union cricket championship returns to normal this

week, although team selections are affected by holidays.

Greg Williamson, however, twelfth man for Scotland against Australia

last week, returns to captain Clydesdale against Uddingston at Titwood.

The visitors will be without Bruce Gibson and Euan Stirrat, both on

vacation, and Scott Baird, but they have Colin Cruickshank back and

introduce promising teenagers Anthony Donnelly and Paul Ritchie.

Tom Porteous and Peter Campbell are absent from Drumpellier's line-up

against Kilmarnock, and with Drew Pryde unavailable because of business,

Dave Storrar, Sandy Pender, and Jim Doran return.

Kilmarnock's bowlers must be contemplating the tactics necessary to

contain Sajid Ali. Pakistan's one-day internationalist has transformed

the Coatbridge outfit with his mercurial batting.

In 10 championship innings -- four times not out -- he has scored 723

runs, his three centuries including an unbeaten 185. He has a remarkable

average of 120.5 and, with seven matches remaining, could reach the

magical 1000 runs, never before achieved in the 96 years of the

championship.

Robbie Henderson, Greenock's wicketkeeper and captain, who has been

out of action for several weeks because of a broken thumb, is giving

himself a fitness test today. If the result is satisfactory, Henderson

will be back against Poloc at Glenpark.

Poloc welcome back Iain Philip, Craig McKnight, and Ian Robertson, and

introduce David Streek from Merchiston School, a member of the Scotland

YC under-19 to play in South Wales next week.

Ferguslie, also affected by holidays and business, will be without Ian

Adshead, Chris Ruddock, and Willie Logan. They restore Clive Stillwell,

Ian McKeachin, and Steve Millen for their home match against Ayr.

Meikleriggs will be like local territory to Ayr's Bruce Patterson and

Alan Simpson, as both are playing there today as guests of the Ferguslie

Select against an All Indian Select in Ashok Malhotra's benefit match.

The attendance at Hamilton Crescent tomorrow, where West of Scotland

are hosts to Kelburne, will be sparse compared with the 5000-plus

spectators who were entertained by the Aussies last week. West are up to

full strength, with Scottish cap David Snodgrass and wicketkeeper Sunil

Sharma back.
