Police believe a body found in a plastic bag in a river may be that of

Bank of England manager Mr Ian Murray Erskine, who went missing last

December. The body was found on Sunday in the River Cam near Ely, police

said this morning.

Mr Erskine, 44, had responsibility for new mechanisms designed to

prevent fraud and incompetence in financial institutions. After his

disappearance a series of frauds on his personal accounts followed, with

his credit card and cheque books used to withdraw more than #2000.
