May 8.At a recent meeting of the Glasgow Sports Promotion Council it

was agreed that a bid should be launched to attract the Commonwealth

Games to Glasgow some time early in the next decade.

You will recall that I was instrumental in having an Olympic

feasibility study carried out by Professor R. E. Nicoll, of Strathclyde

University, in 1978.

I still feel very strongly that this great city of Glasgow should host

a Commonwealth Games or Olympic Games. We are now an internationally

recognised city, having hosted a number of major world sporting events,

culminating in a very successful garden festival 1988. Now is the time

for the Commonwealth Games and the Olympics.
