THE artist Sue Biazotti lives and works from a converted Victorian terraced house in north Glasgow with her Brazilian husband, Jaime, and their two children.

The couple met in London during a Latin dancing session. Awash with Sue's paintings, their home and interior style could be described as affordable, relaxed elegance, which works around family life.

Always innovative in showing and marketing her work, which includes portraits, abstract painting and landscapes, Sue studied at Edinburgh College of Art and regularly exhibits in Edinburgh and London galleries. She was the runner-up for the Morrison Scott Portrait Award in 1999.

What was the pulling power of your house?

We came across it five years ago when we moved up from Hackney. It would be true to say that the initial attraction was the space and light but the fact that it was affordable at the time, although that is not the case now given prices in Glasgow, was a major attraction.

General ambience?

It is a house for living in. We bought it from a couple who also had two children and it is an easy house for a family. I suppose the atmosphere depends on how I am feeling, but all the rooms have a leafy outlook. When we moved in, we didn't have much in the way of furniture so I filled the rooms with plants which tended to take over.

Did you work overtime on improving it?

To create more light in the hall, I swung all the doors round the wrong way. This is infuriating in terms of reaching for the light switches but they had been blocking off a lot of light.

We put in a new kitchen, inexpensive and simple. It's a warm, bright room. I used off-white floor tiles for splash backs as they're simple and don't require much grouting.

Describe your interior design style?

I like to think of every room as a family room. It's a hotchpotch filled with things we come across, everything has a history.

Favourite room?

I like the bedroom as it is very simple, painted white, with some bold paintings, a bed and bedside tables. I love simple things. I like spaces to be relatively clear and I'm forever throwing things out.

Would you consider changing anything?

If I had a lot of money I would simplify everything, along the lines of the bedroom. If you have children you have to be flexible and this house is changing with them as they grow up. I am happy to paint a room in a day if I'm fed up with the colour.

Home projects in the pipeline?

At the moment I am in the process of setting up a home studio for portrait work. I will work here on the days I am not at the King Street studio and it will also be a space for showing work.

Fantasy home?

A beachfront home with big, bright rooms filled with light, with lots of decking and open spaces.
