October 31.Born in Glasgow over 65 years ago, I cannot understand most
of the Glasgow press calling potatoes ''tatties''.
I always understood this expression to belong to the citizens of other
Scottish cities such as Edinburgh.
Potatoes are known as totties in Glasgow. To be on your own was ''on
your 'totty' scone''.
Another Glasgow expression was ''cauld totties 'n' herrin' ''.
No doubt about it, the Glasgow word for the potato is totty!
