THE wife of a Skye lay preacher last night gave birth to her 20th

child. At 9.30pm came the announcement: ''It's a boy -- weighing 10lb

exactly.''

Mrs Jessie Campbell, 44, of Struan, now has 12 boys and eight girls --

all born at Raigmore Hospital, Inverness.

Consultant obstetrician Dr Russell Lees said: ''Mother and baby are

well. Jessie's just delighted -- as usual.''

Like all her previous children, the latest addition to the Campbell

clan arrived on time.

She was driven 100 miles to Inverness two weeks ago -- as a precaution

against bad weather and blocked roads.

It was just as well. As Mrs Campbell welcomed the new baby into the

world, fierce gales were battering the North of Scotland.

Mrs Campbell and her husband, John, are strict Free Presbyterians. Mr

Campbell lambasts the evils of drink and fornication from a local

pulpit.

The couple shun all methods of contraception -- which is why Dr Lees

fully expects her back at the hospital ''in the near future'' to

continue the Campbell line.
