A HEROIN dealer facing sentence for storing drugs in a neighbour's house tried to kill himself by driving off a cliff.

Mr Craig Davidson, 23, failed to turn up at the High Court in Edinburgh yesterday.

Mr Davidson, of Marchburn Drive, Aberdeen, had suffered multiple injuries and was unfit to travel, according to his lawyer.

''On Tuesday of this week, he attempted to take his own life by driving a car off a cliff. The attempt was not successful and he was taken to hospital,'' defence advocate Robin Anthony told the judge.

He added that Mr Davidson hoped to be out of hospital within a couple of weeks.

At an earlier hearing, Mr Davidson had pled guilty to being concerned in the supply of heroin between June 1997 and January last year.

The court heard then that drug squad detectives seized heroin worth #1750 after raiding a house in Balnagask Road, Aberdeen.

Lord Osborne heard that Mr Davidson had been using the drugs to supply one customer on a daily basis - paying the neighbour #100 a week to provide a ''safe house.''

The case continues until later this month.
