ON A flight home from Tenerife I browsed through the booklet which described the attributes of the aircraft. It said the captain always sits on the left-hand side in the cockpit and the first officer on the right side.

I asked a stewardess if she knew the reason for this. She didn't know nor did the captain. All he could say was that the pilot always sat on the left.

I suggested that perhaps it was because most people were right-handed and the instruments would be mostly on the right. The captain said this was not the reason as he used his left hand as much as his right.

Does anyone know the answer to this?
