THE Football Association yesterday charged Newcastle's Faustino Asprilla and Manchester City captain Keith Curle with misconduct. The charges follow alleged incidents in the 3-3 draw in the Premiership match on Saturday at Maine Road.

Asprilla has been charged with two counts of misconduct and Curle with one.

Referee Martin Bodenham's match report was faxed to the FA yesterday morning. It included video evidence from linesman Andrew Martin on the incident which occured immediately after the final whistle.

The match video was also studied by senior FA officials. Spokeswoman Clare Tomlinson said: ``It is clear both players have a case to answer.''

Both players have 14 days to answer the charges and Asprilla has already pleaded his innocence.''

Asprilla was first seen to smash his elbow into the City skipper's face in retaliation after he had been grabbed as he sprinted forward.

Then the pair were involved in the tussle after the final whistle which was witnessed by the linesman. Asprilla has stringently denied there had been any intent to injure Curle in the first clash, although he did not discuss the butting incident.
