Agda Roessel, one of Sweden's most prominent diplomats in the 1960s and 1970s, has died. She was 90.
Roessel was named Sweden's ambassador to the United Nations in 1958, the only woman among 60 UN ambassadors. She held the post until 1964. Previously she had been a head of department in Save the Children and a member of the Swedish delegation to the United Nations Commission for Human Rights. Subsequently she was Sweden's ambassador to a number of countries including Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia, and Greece.
