Scottish cricket last night named its team to lead the sport into the professional era. At a special general meeting, clubs voted overwhelmingly in favour of disbanding the outdated Scottish Cricket Union and replaced it with a limited company: Scottish Cricket Ltd.

A board of directors has been elected, with a chief executive to follow within the next two months. Former president Tom Anderson and chairman of selectors Bobby Hill were voted on to the board along with David Loudon (Edinburgh Accies), Aberdeenshire stalwart David Hays and Heriot's captain Euan McIntyre. Greenock's Kenny Godsman completes the elected directors, who will be joined on the board by current SCU chairman Alun Davies, president John Downie and secretary Bert Barclay.

Spokesman David Potter said: ''There are a broad range of talents on the board and I'm sure they will work with the common goal of taking Scottish cricket forward. The ultimate aim is to gain one-day international status and our new off-field structure will help us achieve that goal.''

l Paul Condon, a former head of London's Metropolitan police, who is leading the ICC's match-fixing investigations, will be in Sri Lanka this weekend looking at allegations of malpractice made against that country's players.
