CLYDE enjoyed a double celebration yesterday when Allan Maitland and top goalscorer Brian Carrigan received the Bell's Second Division manager and player of the month awards respec- tively.

The club could complete the hat trick on Saturday with a victory against Stenhousemuir at Broadwood, which would secure the league title, but Maitland insisted yesterday that the Bully Wee revolution has only just begun.

The club has enjoyed a remarkable reversal of fortunes since former Maryhill managerial duo Maitland and Ronnie MacDonald took over two seasons ago and they plan to be celebrating their long-awaited return to the top flight this time next year.

''We want to win the first division next year,'' said Maitland.

''We only have to look to the likes of Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Livingston to see what can be done.''

The policy of introducing several players from the junior ranks upon taking over proved controversial, with many predicting it would signal the death knell for the club. On the contrary MacDonald and Maitland, who have not accepted a penny for their services, have breathed new life into Clyde.

''We have natural-born winners at the club, people who want to achieve things here,'' said Maitland.

Their rejuvenation has also resulted in international recogni- tion, Carrigan being called up by Alex Smith, the man who unearthed the raw talent during his spell with the club, for Scotland's recent under-21 friendly international match against France.
