n THE Herald reported: ''MP Mr George Galloway last night branded as a 'public disgrace' a Channel 4 programme on Labour social clubs screened after his solicitor failed in a bid to stop it being shown. The Labour MP for Glasgow Hillhead said the programme was 'shot through with tricks and lies'. However, the Crown has ordered an investigation into allegations concerning three Dundee Labour clubs claimed to be #65,000 in debt. It was also alleged that #100,000 could not be accounted for in the clubs' financial records.

n ''Dispatches, a 45-minute Scottish Television programme screened on Channel 4 last night, also revealed details of a mysterious fire at Labour's Dundee HQ five years ago. Mr Frank Doran, the party's then legal adviser, claimed the fire destroyed vital party financial records. Mr Doran is now the MP for South Aberdeen. The programme also alleged that personal cheques of up to #600 were cashed in clubs by senior Labour members, and that many of them subsequently bounced, although assurances were given by those involved that all debts would eventually be honoured. Viewers also heard of a council flat used by two councillors at the time as a love nest. It contained virtually only one piece of furniture, an air bed which had to be inflated before use.''
