Celtic retained the Glasgow Cup, beating Rangers 3-0 in a penalty shoot-out after a 1-1 draw over 120 tense minutes at Ibrox.

Their coach Willie McStay had to watch from the stand after being ordered there by referee Kevin Toner. Against the wishes of the referee, McStay had pulled his players to the side of the pitch as he decided who would take the penalties.

Earlier, both sides had missed penalties, Jamie Smith, the sinner for Celtic and Barry Ferguson missing for Rangers.

Barry Elliott, who put Celtic in front, was ordered off in extra time. Robbie Malcolm scored Rangers' equaliser.
