FOUR autonomous companies - Dawn Construction, Dawn Developments, Dawn Homes and Walmac - form the core of Dawn Group Ltd. Each provides a high quality service in its own particular field but, by working with each other and combining expertise, the four parts become a much greater whole.

The group operates across the entire building industry, working in the public and private sector. Clients range from government bodies to individual home owners, and include national retail and manufacturing companies. The group's significant growth in recent years has been achieved by meeting the varied demands of this impressive and diverse client base.

With a group turnover of #60m a year and what joint managing director Alan Macdonald describes as a ''very healthy order book'', Dawn Group Ltd still sticks to the same principles it did when set up.

Further future growth is likely to come through Dawn Developments Ltd is run by Peter Thorne, together with the group management team of Alan Macdonald, Jim Walker and financial director Jim Thomson. It is their experience and market insight, combined with an emphasis on creativity and innovation, which has ensured Dawn Developments have led the way in the property development market. The company's most recent success is with Queen's Drive retail park at Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, a multi-million pound development including an Asda foodstore, 80,000 sq.ft of non-food retail units and the future development of an adjacent 17-acre leisure site.

Dawn Construction Ltd accounts for #40m of the group's annual turnover, operating in a variety of market sectors including retail, commercial, industrial, housing, health, education and leisure.

The company is run by directors Gordon Thomson and Alex Kerr, together with the group management team, and has won several prestigious awards. Joint managing director Alan Macdonald's son, Barry, is manager of Dawn General Works, a division of Dawn Construction which offers a comprehensive and cost effective range of services from refurbishing a leisure centre to designing and building a factory unit.

Ian Mahon is joining the group next month as managing director of Dawn Homes Ltd which is currently building 120 housing units a year, with plans to expand to 150 units. The company has carved a niche in the highly competitive private housebuilding sector by building top quality homes renowned for good workmanship.

Current developments are at Laurel Wynd, Shettleston and Lochside View, Irvine.

Directors Bob White and Alex Miller, together with the group management team, run Walmac Ltd as a comprehensive joinerwork service for the companies in the group and as subcontractors for a wide range of clients. They also undertake main contracts where there is a high element of woodwork required.
