Glasgow Sports Division men, who can wrap up their first Scottish League title next week and were odds-on for the double, crashed out to St Mirren McDonalds in a low-scoring semi-final at Easterhouse after seeing their women give a magnificent performance to reach their first final.

Glasgow now face the holders Dalkeith Saints after deservedly beating the league champions and last year's cup runners-up Polonia Phoenix 53-49.

Men's coach Jim ''Micky'' McKechnie was quick to swallow his own bitter disappointment and praise them. ''I'm really pleased for them - the girls deserve a lot of credit for beating Polonia,'' he said.

The Glasgow ''girls'' included 46-year-old ex-Yugoslav cap and Boznian refugee Sabrica Zelenovic who has played a major part in the Glasgow success story this season and scored 12 points. Home products Debbie Strang (10) and Angie Nugent (8) both did well. Top scorer was the Glasgow development officer and Irish cap Geraldine Innes with 17.

There will be ''burger wars'' in the men's final as St Mirren face Edinburgh Burger Kings with neither side having won the trophy before. The Paisley men have not lost to their capital rivals this season at senior level and have a great chance to put the gloss on all the fine development work they have done.

Inverness side atc Highland reached the Scottish President's Cup final with a 72-70 home win over Aberdeen Dukes, last year's beaten finalists.
