A HUDDLE of women of assorted ages will today melt away from the doorstep of Glasgow's Royal Concert Hall, having survived an autumnal ritual and looking forward to a concert which does not take place until spring.

Some had been camped out since Monday to get their pick of the 6000 tickets on sale this morning to see Irish singer star Daniel O'Donnell next March.

They have been surrounded with blankets, bags, flasks, and scones all week through frost, rain, and shine.

Anna Riches, 44, a mother of three from Renfrew, was first in the queue on Monday. She said: ''My mother has disowned me since she discovered I was out here.

''But it's going to be worth the wait as Daniel is just magic and hopefully it'll mean we get to meet him in the flesh. Camping out in the street is all part of the excitement and all part of the whole Daniel O'Donnell experience. It's a great way to make friends and to meet old friends from last year.''.

Bessy Collins, 65, from Cumbernauld, said: ''Our husbands can't object as they know where we are and they have been getting a week's peace too.''
