Dundee have sacked their young striker, Bobby Linn, for missing training.

The 18-year-old seemed set for a bright future at Dens Park but Jim Duffy, the club's manager, was not prepared to put up with his lack of discipline.

Linn also missed training last Christmas, and was banished to the reserves for two months. This time there was no second chance, and his contract was terminated by mutual consent.

Steve Lovell is suspended, so Dundee will have only two strikers for Sunday's game against Rangers.

''I know we are short in terms of squad numbers, but if a player makes it clear he doesn't want to be part of the club then it is best we let him go,'' said Duffy.

Linn now looks set to sign for Raith Rovers, where he guested during the summer.

Meanwhile, the Dundee United coach, Ian McCall, has denied that he is trying to sign FH Hafnarfjordur's assistant coach, Leifur Gardarsson.

''I have spoken to Leifur, but can state categorically that the talks were not related to trying to bring him to Dundee United,'' said McCall. ''Leifur is someone I know well, and our intention is to forge links between the clubs, especially as our seasons run at different times.

''The thinking is that perhaps we can loan some of our young lads to

Hafnarfjordur with a view to us bringing one or two of their players over here.''
