ART collectors have the chance to pick up a bargain as two of Scotland's leading art schools open their doors for their annual degree shows.

Original artwork from upand-coming artists will be on display and for sale at the Glasgow School of Art degree show, which opens tomorrow.

On the same day, Edinburgh College of Art's degree show opens, with works by more than 400 students across 23 areas of art, design and architecture on display.

At Glasgow School of Art, which counts this year's Turner Prize winner Simon Starling among its alumni, works created by students from paintings, ceramics and jewellery to architecture projects, textiles and graphics will be featured during the week-long event.

Among the emerging painters exhibiting are Daniel Munday, Claire Rooney, Fiona Mackay, Eilidh Gilbertson and John Woodman.

In the sculpture and environmental art section, Steven Higgins's workwill be on show. He was recently commissioned to make an anti-racist mosaic by the Scottish Executive.

Also included in the environmental art section will be Beth Hamer's work. She is making a roof garden at Jumping Jack's pub in Sauchiehall Street in Glasgow for the show.

The Glasgow School of Art degree show runs until June 24 in the Mackintosh building on Renfrew Street.

The Edinburgh College of Art show runs until June 27 in the main building on Laurieston Place and in Evolution House, West Port.ART'S COOL: Edinburgh College of Art student Ayaka Okutsu jumps for joy beside her degree show exhibit Tongue the Lier (sic). Picture: Lloyd Smith
