An Australian high school has been given a huge pipe organ, which has resided in Perth City Hall for 122 years.

Perth and Kinross councillors wanted to sell the instrument but feared no-one would want it because of a glut of them on the market.

However, an expression of interest was noted by Haileybury College in Melbourne and councillors voted to donate it to them - as long as they picked up the shipping bill.

Nicholas Dwyer, the school's vice-principal, promised that a plaque would be fitted to acknowledge Perth's "generosity".
