The Earl Haig Fund insisted yesterday that a new facility for ex-service personnel is to be built on the site of Flanders House in Glasgow.

The house in Kelvindale, home to 32 veterans, is to close in September, but residents will have to be dispersed to family or nursing homes in the meantime. The 35 staff are to lose their jobs.

Details of the new facility are yet to be decided, said Tony Herdman, chief executive of the fund.
