Injured Scottish stand-off Craig Chalmers makes a quick phone call

with fiancee Lucy Fleming yesterday after arriving at Edinburgh airport.

Chalmers, whose arm was broken in two places during the 26-12 defeat by

England at Twickenham, was then taken to the city's Royal Infirmary. He

will be out for three to six months and his summer dreams of touring New

Zealand with the British Lions are over. He said: ''Gavin Hastings

dropped the ball and I went down for it. The next thing, Dewi Morris was

on top of me and I heard the awful snap. I knew right away what had

happened. I am pretty devastated, but this is a game where you sometimes

get injured and I will be back as soon as I can.'' Meanwhile, Scotland

football manager Andy Roxburgh was yesterday coming to terms with the

news that Aberdeen striker Eoin Jess is out of the next three World Cup

ties. Jess broke an ankle in Saturday's Tennent's Scottish Cup tie with

Clydebank at Pittodrie. Roxburgh said: ''Eoin is a gift which has been

snatched away from us.''
