AN inquiry has begun into a helicopter crash in the Highlands in which

two men died. The French-made Squirrel aircraft, owned by

Inverness-based PLM Helicopters, came down on Wednesday in Glencoe

Forest, south of Ballachulish, while delivering feed for farm animals in

windy and sleety weather.

A team from the Department of Transport's air accident investigation

branch begin working at the crash site yesterday.

Last night, the dead men were named as pilot Peter Walker, from

Dunbartonshire, and field operations technician Peter Marshall, 50, of

Evanton, Easter Ross. Post-mortem examinations are to be carried out in

Inverness today.

Both men had been with PLM for several years and had not been involved

in an accident before. The helicopter had been serviced recently.

PLM's managing director, Mr John Poland, said last night: ''PLM

charter flight operations will continue as normal with total confidence

in crews and aircraft.''

He said the helicopter had been carrying an under-slung load at the

time of the crash.
