A PRIMARY teacher has won the coveted gold medal in the solo singing
competition at this year's Royal National Mod in Dunoon.
Mrs Maggie Macdonald, 41, of Inverness, who was competing in her third
gold medal final, came in third two years ago. Her two aunts, an uncle,
and two cousins have previously won gold medals, and her mother, Anne
Michie, was a traditional gold medalist.
Miss Margaret Henderson, 27, originally from North Uist, won the
traditional gold medal. Miss Henderson, who works as a lawyer in
Glasgow, last sang in the Junior Mod in 1982.
Top men's soloist title went to Mr Norman MacKinnon, from Campbeltown.
Mr MacKinnon, 38, a surveyor, was competing in his seventh final.
The An Comunn silver pendant went to Mr Iain Maclean, 38, from
Tobermory.This was his fifth attempt, having been runner-up for the past
four years.
Unemployed labourer Donald Mathieson, 49, from Barvas, Lewis, won the
traditional gold medal at his fifth attempt.
The ladies silver pendant was won by Ms Fiona MacCallum, 26, from
Glasgow, a solicitor.
