CLYDEBANK footballer Colin Sutherland, of Jedworth Avenue, Drumchapel,

was accused yesterday of attempting to murder a young woman. The

19-year-old defender appeared in private at Glasgow Sheriff Court

charged with assaulting Kirsty Hay, 17, in her home in Cloan Avenue,

Drumchapel, last Sunday. It is alleged he struck her on the head with a

telephone handset, repeatedly stamped on her foot and punched, kicked,

bit her, and compressed her throat as she lay on the floor. His lawyer,

Mr Brian Fitzpatrick, made no plea and Sheriff Alexander McIlwain

remanded the accused in custody.
