IT is still not clear if 35-year-old Glasgow man Mr Paul Hamilton,

whose body was found slumped in his car in a Riddrie street late on

Tuesday night, was the victim of a gangland shooting.

Mr Hamilton's body was being examined by pathologists yesterday as

police continued to comb a sealed-off area in Cumbernauld Road at the

corner with Dee Street.

Police confirmed that they had received reports of what might have

been gunfire in the Dee Street area immediately before the car went out

of control.

They are also investigating statements from witnesses, who said that a

blond man, aged between 25 and 30 and wearing a dark leather jacket, was

seen running away from Mr Hamilton's car.

Detective Superintendent Val Gryzbek said yesterday he was anxious to

trace the blond man. Mr Hamilton's Jaguar hit a tenement block after

careering out of control. A mechanic, he lived in Bargeddie Street,

Blackhill -- the centre in recent years of gangland violence which has

led to a number of deaths.

He gave evidence at the trial of Mr Paul Ferris, acquitted last year

of the murder of Arthur Thompson, Jun, a convicted heroin dealer.

Meanwhile, police have renewed their appeal for information in the

hunt for a man wanted for interview in connection with the fatal

shooting of Mr John Healey, 33, in Templeland Road, Pollok, Glasgow, on

Monday night.

They warned again that Maurice Murphy, 27, should not be approached.
