* JUSTIN Fashanu signed a one-year contract with Hearts last night,

and thanked Scottish football for kick-starting a faltering career.

The 31-year-old former Watford and Nottingham Forest striker

considered five offers before choosing Tynecastle, after a season with

Airdrie.

''I owe a big thank you to Airdrie and Alex MacDonald for giving me

the chance to prove I can still play at this level,'' he said. ''If you

can play in the Scottish premier divison you can play anywhere.''

Fashanu's signing comes 48 hours after Ian Baird moved to Bristol

City, a transfer that seems headed for the tribunal.
