TRAVEL chaos is threatened around Inverness from tomorrow when urgent repairs begin to the Kessock Bridge which carries the A9 trunk road north of the Highland capital.
It has a traffic flow of around 33,000 vehicles per day, many travelling to and from Inverness from the Black Isle, Easter Ross and east Sutherland for work and business.
However, two out of the four lanes on the bridge will be closed for eight days for essential major repairs to the north expansion joint on both carriageways and remedial works to the bridge deck surfacing.
Both lanes of the northbound carriageway will be closed until the middle of next week , then both lanes of the south-bound carriageway from the night of Wednesday, June 22, until the evening of Sunday, June 26.
It is feared there could be enormous tailbacks to the north in the mornings and back into Inverness in the late afternoons.
Scotland Transerv, the contractors responsible for the management and maintenance of the trunk road network in the north, have appealed to motorists to help.
Where possible they should share cars or travel before or after the Inverness rush hour. Commuters are also being asked to consider working at home to reduce the congestion.
Transport Scotland said the work would be com-pleted next Sunday (June 26) . It had been timed to avoid conflict with any major local public event such as last week’s Rockness, the Scottish Open next month and the Black Isle Show in August.
