CLAIMS that parts of Scotland such as Ayrshire will become a "wind farm landscape" have been rejected.

The claim was made by senior planning officials who also expressed concern at the burdens being placed on the process by high-profile public opposition to new wind farms.

Heads of Planning Scotland, said 10% of land in Ayrshire was identified as having wind farm potential and consent had been granted for half of that.

However, a Government spokeswoman said: "Planning authorities will only allow wind farms to be built where impacts have been found acceptable."
