A TEAM of independent experts has been appointed to carry out a review into a health board's management culture after claims waiting times figures were doctored to meet official targets.
Two members of staff have already been suspended as part of the investigation into NHS Lothian, which apparently did not include in their waiting lists patients who had been referred to Northumberland for treatment but declined.
Health Secretary Nicola Sturgeon ordered an investigation into management culture, saying some staff felt pressured to find tactical solutions to waiting times rather than tackle the root problem.
The health board said yesterday David J Bowles & Associates would lead the review of cultures within the organisation with input from Pricewaterhouse- Coopers.
Dr Charles Winstanley, chairman of NHS Lothian who is leading the steering group which commissioned David J Bowles, said: "These expert organisations will work together to produce an independent review of cultures within NHS Lothian. Dignity at work is very important in NHS Lothian and I want to reassure our staff this review will be com- prehensive. It is essential we reassure the public of our integrity, openness and transparency."
Lyn Turner, Unite regional officer and partnership lead on the steering group, said it was vital the findings of the review were acted on immediately. He added: "The investigation is being carried out in partnership with trade unions and I want staff to know they should not be fearful in coming forward. It is a safe process."
