AN eight-year-old boy has died after being crushed by a flat-bed trailer at a farm.

The incident took place at Wyndales Lodge, off the A73, two miles from Symington in South Lanarkshire, yesterday.

A spokesman for the Scottish Ambulance Service said medical crews arrived on the scene and Charles Kimm was flown by air ambulance to Wishaw General Hospital about 20 miles away, where he was declared to be dead.

A Strathclyde Police spokeswoman said: "At around 2.55pm, we were notified of a tragic accident that occurred on a farm in the Symington area, which has resulted in the death of a child.

"Police are currently at the scene and further details will be released once they have been established and family informed."

An ambulance service spokesman said: "We were called to an incident in which a flat-bed trailer landed on top of a child."

The white stone property, which was once part of an 11-acre estate, is registered to Robert Kimm, who is listed on the website, Champdogs.co.uk, as a breeder of English pointer dogs.

Wishaw General is the nearest hospital for dealing with severe trauma injuries to the farm's relatively remote location. An ambulance service source refused to speculate on the child's condition before he was flown to the hospital.
